Welcome to Henderson, located in the lush green Piney Woods of North East Texas. Henderson is a Texas and National Main Street City, and is named after the first Governor of the State James Pickney Henderson.
Our National Registered Historic District is one of the most picturesque downtown in the East Texas area. Colorful canvas awnings highlight the historic buildings and offer shade while shopping in the unique shops and businesses. Our new pocket park includes umbrella tables and chairs along with a public restroom. The Rusk County Courthouse is just steps away.
The community of Henderson possesses a relaxed and friendly rural atmosphere combined with sophisticated and intelligent charm — boots and jeans, rodeos, fishing, hunting, tennis, golfing and the Henderson Civic Theater are all found in this special place. Henderson is home to the Heritage Syrup Festival which is known as the sweetest festival in Texas. The festival began in 1988 and attracts about 25,000 attendees the second Saturday in November…Come be a volunteer!! We would love to have you!!
One of the qualities that residents enjoy the most is they have the best of living in a hassle-free small town America. Henderson offers the all the conveniences, goods and services normally only found in larger communities. Henderson features a great community hospital, East Texas Medical Center Level IV Trauma center, which is an affiliate of the Tyler based East Texas Medical Center, a regional health care system located just 35 miles in Tyler. Ambulance service is provided and the Air Ambulance is stationed at the hospital. Despite its small town, bigger city amenities are just a short drive away.
